IS YOUR BACK HOLDING YOU BACK?

Happily, there is a reason for optimism.  Helping patients get better must go beyond “where it hurts.” Back pain sufferers often become distanced from family, friends, and work.  This physical and emotional separation leads to anger, depression and frustration.  Pain sufferers lose self-worth and believe themselves to be hopeless in getting better.  Medicines, injections, therapy, counseling, and new technologies can be a part of the process of restoration.

Vertebral Axial Decompression (VAX-D) is an important newcomer.  VAX-D is a safe effective treatment plan that involves external (non-surgical) decompression of the lumbar spine.  It is primarily designed to, over a series of treatments, relieve low back pain, improve spine mobility, and to take “the pressure” off nerve roots. The split table design allows effective traction pressures to be maximized across the low back, yet it is comfortable enough to obviate the body’s tendency to “fight the machine.”

VAX-D works by slightly lengthening the spine particularly by allowing the rehydration of the discs.  Disc height is important in determining how much room there is around each nerve root.  Disc height also partially determines the strain put on the small facet joints that normally stabilize the spine from behind.  By effectively stretching the spine, VAX-D takes the pressure off injured nerve roots and helps to “loosen up” the spine to allow better flexibility and less stiffness.  Pain reduces as a consequence.

VAX-D is applicable to patients suffering back pain on the basis of degenerative disc disease, facet arthropathy, disc herniation, and bulging disc.  It improves the associated stiffness from any or all of the above.  VAX-D is available in Rome, Georgia at Coosa Medical Group.
